The EPFP operational model & beyond…

Given the indisputable fact that every person who holds special or advanced technical or scientific knowledge may and will become a patient throughout life, our network has embraced the concept that such cumulative category of individuals under an innovative non-profit operating network can hold a valuable as underscored actionable role towards guaranteeing the quality, the sustainability and the individual patient health informed options both for themselves as well as for non-technical patients. This in order to fulfil the invoked principle of patient-centered healthcare which is intrinsically biased under purely corporate operational healthcare models.

In this respect, the EPFP model potentially spans from the design and management of EPFP-driven or affiliated biobanks to that of healthcare networks and providers with specific regards, but not limited to the EPFP network members’ data anonymization such as their actionable enrichment towards patient-centered research and personalized interventions on the very same bioasset holder.

Noteworthy, the EPFP model ‘s goals are not restricted to those pursued by patients advocate associations, although it may share in principle overlapping goals. Indeed, it is better described as a technical and operational framework allowing the viewpoint of expert patients (those with advanced technical and/or scientific background surrounding applicable to diseases’ biology, medicine and healthcare models) towards contributing to the optimization of current institution-centered healthcare models and services by expanding the level of personalization and effectiveness brought by medical advances and ultimately connecting the widest possible range of individuals to the most effective available treatments for their individual pathology needs.

Importantly, the very same EPFP operational framework bears the potential to improve the quality of life of other categories of citizens. Namely, (a) subjects affected by chronic degenerative conditions carrying various levels of functional impairment or disability and (b) apparently healthy or pre-pathological individuals based on their genetic predisposition to certain conditions.

In this latter regard, the EPFP operating principle can be applied to a number of EPFP-driven actionable initiatives meant to integrate smart and sustainable living with personal healthcare practices outside traditional healthcare settings such as in assisted living facilities and EPFP-network managed special-need residential communities.
